The Staniforth family has farmed in the Benalto area SW of Sylvan Lake for 92 years. Currently a third generation family operation producing grain and canola, Gordon and his dad have been farming together since 1979. The land was first cultivated in 1903 and has been in the family since 1919.

We diversified into a berry crop in 2001 which is the main part of the farm that visitors see. The u-pick raspberry patch has been open seasonally to the public for seven years.
Come out to pick your own raspberries - red, black & yellow - and black and red currants. Gooseberries and rhubarb are coming along a bit more every year.  Our Saskatoons have been victims of the deer and have never gotten up to where we thought they would by now.

Our Strawberry greenhouses have been sold to our neighbor who wanted to get into the small farm crop business.  You can obtain strawberries from Krista Stannard at 403-373-2231.  I passed on all the know how I acquired through a few years of experience.  You can contact her for your strawberry fix.

We no longer attend farmers markets.  The demands of the grain side of our farm have become larger with older members of our team retiring and finding qualified help with large equipment know-how becoming a challenge.

Shortage of time in the fall prevents a lot of processing time and over the past couple of years, less of my time is in the kitchen, and fewer preserves are available as a result.  We will stock the shed in the raspberry patch with what we have available.  The bees are still making time to make honey though and we will have our natural honey for sale for as long as supplies last.

Thanks for visiting our site. Take a look through and get to know us. Leave an email address and we'll provide a raspberry update as the season progresses.

See you this summer!
